Singalila National Park Nepal

The ingenious assortment of cool climate, generous precipitation and the right mix of warmth and humidity throughout the year have shaped the unique eco-system of Singalila National Park in the northernmost reaches of Darjeeling district of West Bengal and the adjacent forest in Ilam, Nepal. The wide range of  vegetation ranging from subtropical forests and temperate coniferous forests which exists in the altitude range 2000 to 3500 meters has made the Singalila National Park a prominent biodiversity hotspot. This sub-temperate Himalayan broadleaf ecosystem is home to  wide array of elusive Himalayan wildlife such as Red Panda, Asiatic Black Bear, Clouded leopard, Common Leopard, Melanistic Leopard, Leopard Cat, Himalayan Sherow, Himalayan Musk deer, Melanistic Barking deer, Himalayan Brow Goral, Yellow-throated Marten, Himalayan Palm Civet, Bhutan Giant Flying Squirrel and many more.

Singalila is also home to more than 200 bird species. Satyr Tragopan, Blood Pheasant , Fire-tailed Myzornis, Red Crossbill, Rosefinches, Bullfinches, Grosbeaks, Parrotbills, Yuhinas, Laughingthrushes are among the most notable ones.

The highest peak of this park is Sandakphu (3636m ) which is the highest peak of West Bengal as well. Sandakphu is the only place in the world which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the majestic Himalayan mountain range. There is no other place in the world where one can witness Mt.  Everest and Mt. Khangchendzonga in a single frame, Which makes this place one of a kind. Sandakphu  also happens to be a very popular destination for high altitude birding.

The incredibly rare Red Panda is the crown jewel of this natural heaven, with the Singalila National Park being one of the few last remaining refuges for the incredible animal.

Day 1: 4/11/25:

Bagdogra- Singalila National Park

Drive to Maneybhanjyang from Darjeeling in the morning. Maneybhanjyang is the entry point of
Singalila National Park and also will be our home for the next few nights. Our stay Shikhar Tarry is a very well maintained homestay with all facilities. We need 4×4 Mahindra Bolero and move
towards Singalila National Park. Lunch will be served on the field. We will join our Red Panda
Scanner team as soon as we reach the Red Panda sighting area.Evening will be at leisure, short
hiking in nearby trail for birding. Dinner and overnight at Shikhar Tarry Homestay.

 

Day 2: 5/11/25:

Singalila National Park

Guests will wake up and have breakfast at the lodge. Our team of expert trackers would have gone
out searching for Red Panda early in the morning. As the trackers find Red Panda, guests will be
taken to the spot. Guests can opt to walk to the sighting spot or choose to go by a 4X4 vehicle, if the sighting is close to a motor-able road. Along with our expert naturalist, guests can also participate in tracking using established trails in search for Red Panda. Singalila is home to several species of birds and guests can also engage themselves with bird watching, while the trackers are out looking for Red Panda. Lunch will be served on the field or at the lodge, depending on the wildlife activities that we decide to do. Dinner and overnight at Shikhar Tarry (B, L & D)

 

Day 3 & 4: 6/11/25 & 7/11/25:

Singalila National Park

Each day the trackers will go out searching for Red Panda in the national park area and your
naturalist will identify suitable trails for searching for Red Panda and other species. For those guests who have difficulty walking, even the 4X4 vehicles will be there in support to drive you to various sightings or spots.
Apart from wildlife, Singalila National Park is also quite popular for the scenic vistas that one can
see. The Kanchendzonga peak along with other surrounding peaks form the sleeping Buddha, which can be best viewed from Sandakphu. At the discretion of your naturalist and the sighting situation, the guest can visit Sandakphu to see this and explore the areas around.. There are also some interesting villages to be seen close to your lodge. (B,L & D)

 

Day 5: 8/11/25:

Singalila National Park- Bagdogra

Hot breakfast at the lodge. Depart for Siliguri .Drop at Bagdogra airport to take onward flight.
