Jaipur, the Pink City of Rajasthan is popularly known for its historical architecture and culture. Today Jaipur has a new attraction for its visitors within the city… Jhalana. An initiative by the Rajasthan Government, Jhalana Forest Reserve is located within the Jaipur city. It covers over 24 sq. km. Jhalana has been known for leopard and animal sightings in the past. Once a hunting ground for royals, this reserve is now known as one of the most visited parks in the country.
Jhalana sets an example of coexisting with wildlife in urban landscapes by probably recording the highest density of leopard sightings globally. Leopards are shy animals. Spotting one is extremely tough. But Jhalana really promises to be one of the best places to sight one. Sighting multiple leopards here is not uncommon. Leopards in Jhalana are seen very close and are comfortable to tourist presence. As per officials of the reserve, the behavioural flexibility and elusiveness of these leopards allows them to live in perfect harmony with the inhabitants living nearby. Jhalana is not just home to leopards but also numerous other species such as the Striped Hyena, Desert fox, Jungle cat, Blue Bulls, etc. The park also hosts around 100 bird species.
Type of Forest: Dry Deciduous (Tortilis, Khejri, Dhink, Salar, etc.).
