Dosdewa Assam

Assam is a birdwatcher’s paradise, boasting a diverse avifauna and several Important Birding Areas. The rare biological diversity of this beautiful province of the Indian subcontinent results from the unique conjunction of four different Biomes (Sino-Himalayan Temperate Forest, Sino-Himalayan Subtropical Forest, Indo-Chinese Tropical Moist Forest and Indo-Gangetic Plain) in one place – Assam. This means that it harbours numerous endangered and endemic species of flora and fauna, which has made this little known area a Global Biodiversity Hotspot.
The state’s unique location in the foothills of the Himalayas and its diverse habitats, including wetlands, forests, and rivers, create a rich environment for a wide variety of bird species. Assam is home to 950 bird species, including 17 endemic species. The Phayre’s leaf monkey, a critically endangered primate species found in northeastern India, specifically in Assam, Tripura, and Mizoram. They are also known as Phayre’s langur and are characterized by their distinctive “spectacled” appearance with white markings around their eyes.
