Located in the Bay of Bengal, these islands were once a great landmass that stretched from Myanmar to Indonesia.
In 1789, the British managed to create a settlement here with a prison for the most notorious prisoners.
The communities here trace their ancestry back to Africa. The original inhabitants of the islands were six tribes, two Mongoloid and four Negroid. All but one of them are today on the verge of extinction. Nicobarese, a Mongoloid tribe, have assimilated into the mainstream, while the other five tribes prefer to live an isolated life. Over the years the islands have earned a formidable reputation due to its inhabitants, who greeted outsiders with bows and arrows.
Andaman and Nicobar islands boast of monitored tourism to maintain the rich and unique wildlife present both on land and under water. Today the islands have 96 sanctuaries and nine national parks. About 86 percent of the islands are covered with forest. Nesting sites dating centuries support Olive Ridley turtles, Hawksbill turtles and Leatherback turtles. Amongst the rare avifauna are the Nicobar Pigeon and the Megapode.
A range of tropical activities including swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, coral viewing, glass bottom boat rides and mangrove exploration can be experienced here. One can also choose to hike up to the Saddle Peak and Mt. Harriet. For a more sober hearted, they can choose to visit the Kaala Pani Jail and various Museums (Fisheries, Forest and Samudrica).
This journey is tailored for our guests to explore and experience the wilderness of the Adamans. With a combination of local guides and our trained naturalist, you surly will get to experience the unseen side of Adamans.
